Working from home can be fantastic and has many benefits to it. However if you are not used to working from home or are someone who prefers office structure it can be tough. With the current lock down that the UK has been placed under, many of us have found ourselves working from home. This is a big change to deal with and can often lead to people struggling to motivate themselves, and potentially lead to tasks not being done or just taking longer than usual. Here are some tips on how to try and maintain focus on your work and create a productive home working atmosphere.

Creating your Work Space

The first factor to help create a productive environment is your work space. Is there somewhere you can set up as your ‘office’? Whether it be a separate room or a shared social space choosing one space will help to create a working mindset once your in that space.

Stay Organised

When working from home it can often be easy to loose track of upcoming and ongoing tasks. Therefore, it is important to stay organised. Keeping track of tasks that need to be completed and their due dates can help, as well of ticking these off once completed. There are lots of websites that allow you to track tasks and even link with your colleagues when required.

Maintain Structure

Home working often comes with more flexible hours. This is great as it means if you’re an early riser you can get going straight away or vise versa if you like to sleep in. However, getting into that mindset can cause loss of motivation. Often maintaining a structure of set or rough working hours can help to create the right productive mindset. Can you maintain or tweak your normal working routine. Adapting your current routine will mean you are more likely to stick to it.

Be Social

More than ever keeping social with your colleagues is so important. Instead of writing that email to your colleague can you give them quick call? This will help to keep yourself in the work mindset but also allow you to have a quick catch up. Check in with your colleagues, not just for yourself but to make sure they’re also okay.

Tidy your Work Space

Try to keep your work space as tidy and clutter free as possible. This will help you to concentrate on your tasks at hand and not be distracted. Often working with clutter near us can be distracting. Keeping a clear work space will also make it easier to tidy away if you are working in a shared space.
