It’s the start of a passionate campaign for promoting safety when working at height. So, if you are passionate about workplace safety and want to help prevent accidents before they happen, this blog is for you!
50 people lost their lives due to falling from height at work in 2023/24. Also in 2023/24, 36% of all workplace deaths were due to falls from height in Great Britain.
How to prevent injuries at work 👷
This week aims to ensure everyone is aware of the dangers of working at height and how we can prevent injuries at work. Luckily, there are rules and regulations in place to ensure working at height is as safe as it can be. These include:
- Risk assessments: All work at height must be risk assessed, organised and correctly planned.
- Weather conditions: This must be taken into account as this can endanger safety.
- Training: Staff working at height must be properly trained, to ensure they are using equipment safely and correctly.
- Falling objects: Risks of falling objects must be assessed as this can cause falls.
- Equipment testing: Ladders, steps and anything used to work at height must be properly assessed and inspected.
These duties are placed on anyone who controls the work of others, such as employers and the self-employed. It is important that if work at height must be completed, the correct measures are put in place to ensure if a fall occurs, the consequences are minimised.
