Learn to Ride a Bike Day!

Posted on April 30th 2025 by Libby Collins.

Learn to Ride a Bike Day! Each year on May 1st, we celebrate Learn to Ride a Bike Day! This day is the perfect opportunity to help children and raise awareness on the importance of riding a bike. Although this idea can be daunting, it is easy to get started, whether you are an adult or a child!

Why is learning to ride a bike important? 🚴

Travel: Travelling by bike is free! Once you’ve purchased the bike, there is no cost for using it to get from one place to another.

Exercise: Whether you’re using your bike for transport or just for fun, it’s a great form of cardio and general exercise, allowing you to remain healthy!

Socialising: Going for a bike ride is the perfect way to get out of the house with friends or family. It can be a fun way to explore new places and try new things!

Increased self-esteem: Learning a new skill or developing a new hobby can help boost your self-esteem and confidence.

Independence: For younger people, or people without a car, riding a bike offers independence as individuals won’t need to rely on public transport or lifts from other people.

How can you celebrate? 🎉

Teach someone to ride a bike – help someone learn a new hobby and grow their confidence by offering to help them to learn how to ride a bike

Organise a bike ride – plan a bike ride with your family or friends and celebrate this amazing hobby!

Funky helmets – in the past few years, funky helmets have become increasingly popular on this day. This is where everyone decorates their helmets and shows them off!

Spread the word – however you celebrate this year, be sure to post on socials and show the world what you are up to, this also helps spread awareness of this event!
